Post subject: | Franken (or poorly refurbished) 787? |
Hello. I am a newly registered member here so I start by congratulating you on the outstanding work you do out of your passion for this remarkable brand. I happen to own a 787, which I got as late payment from a friend who owed money to me. He claims he bought from ebay at a 1.500euro price. Tried to find some information from the internet and found this link http://sfile.f-static.com/image/users/1 ... d=11787064 It is about a so-called pulseton 787. but the term pulseton I could not find elsewhere, which sounds suspicious. And I could not find any other picture of such dial. Also, I suspect that the watch in the picture IS actually the watch I have, because I noticed that the subdials are somehow asymmetrical: you'll barely notice in the attached picture but - for instance, for the right-end subdial - the dial 'head' is closer to the 20 marker than to the 10.... Browsing through the forum I noticed that the serial from the case traces back to year 1945 production. Any hint or comment? Thanks a lot indeed. |

Welcome to BreitlingSource. Can't comment on the entire watch from one picture, photos of yours would help. From that one picture - well, you can see that the dial is a lot younger than 70 years old! |

Here you go with a couple of pictures of the dial. Will take more of the inside asap. Regards. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/790 ... 154512.JPG https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/790 ... 154251.JPG |

this is a dial refinished by Causemann. does not make the watch a fake, I seem to remember that watch selling on ebay some time ago around the amount your friend claims to have paid. |

Thanks. Which means it is just a professionally restored dial, right? What about the subdials? They seem evidently asymmetric to me. You think that was the case also in the original watch? Have you ever seen another dial like this? Thanks for your patience and expertise. |

Causemann is considered one of the better dial refinishers, but the "asymmetrical subdials" are a typical refinishing problem - it would be prohibitively expensive to make a new die for evey dial they refinish, so they look for the best possible fit, but almost never get the subdial spacing exactly right. no, factory dials aren't asymmetrical. yes, we have seen many dials like this - most are much worse. |

Thanks again. And would you agree with the value I was mentioning for this watch (1500€)? Regards |
