Aside from the obviously incorrect chrono center hand which is from a superocean ref 2005
This is a strange watch , why are the hole in the dial around the subdial hands so big ?

But , its an immaculate dial , great bezel, just a nagging feeling

You and Fred being the experts on this watch, but it seems to me that this dial is too small for this watch. There appears to be a gap all the way around between the dial and inner case. Or is it my eyes again?

The 765 and 7650 dials are the same size afaik

Gap might be a 7656 bezel on a 7650 case , or worse , a 7656 / 7650 bezel on a 765 case
But that doesnt explain the space around the subdial hands ?

Both the 765 and the 7650 use the 178 movement , so that should fit perfectly on the dial amd should center the hands as well

Weird

Dial may previously have been used on a different movement with larger pinions requiring enlarging of the holes. Would be interesting to see if the original dial feet are still in place.

I was thinking exactly the same thing.

so are we saying there are 2 versions 178 movements , of which 1 version has larger pinions ?

Nope. Just saying the dial could have been on a franken watch prior with, for example. a Valjoux movement instead which would explain the modification.

Oh ok , i misunderstood the reference to 'a different movement'

And if mated to something other than a 178 the dial feet would likely have had to have been moved.
