My question is not answered ?

Is a ref 765 with toptime dial correct in a 65 66 case ?

no, clearly "incorrect" in the narrow sense, although we have seen several of those, some claimed to still be in the posession of the original owner, who bought the watches in that condition in the 1960s.

but the ref. 765 was always part of the Premier line and not a Top Time and I have no explanation why a ref. 810 monobloc dial should have been Breitling-assembled into a 765 screwback case.

Clearly a nice watch and all but..... IMHO not worth the asking price in this "incorrect" condition. I would much rather have a properly cased and dial piece with no questions than one with the, " original owner verified to me he bought this watch in 1965 in this condition".

I think he got the full asking price for the watch though. I submitted an offer that was wayyy lower than what the top offer was at the time..

I'd be hesitant to call it wrong since there have been a few of these available over the last few years. Seems like the 7656 with Top Time on the dial was also questioned initially. I would like to see more definitive proof and just saying "I've had it since new" isn't definitive without documentation unfortunately. You just can't trust everyone these days. I don't think the value to a collector is that much less since the sum of the parts will still bring about the same return. I do remember a few years ago when there were some of these 765 nos cases on ebay and I imagine the Top Time dial is much easier to find than the similar 765 dial although I have purchased nos 765 dials in the last 2 years.
