I recently bought a vintage navitimer. Everything but the crystal seemed to check out to me, but I thought I should run it past the experts on here. Runs amazingly well and the little rust it has is just surface level. I noticed the bridge says "Breitling Watch Corp" and not the "Breitling Watch Ltd" that I see online. Is that normal?

Any recommendations on how to wipe off the rust around the perimeter?

Looks all ok to me
The rust wouldnt worry me too much , let a good watchmaker service it and clean the case

I think there is a mismatch in the dial branding and the year you say it was made. I don't think it's a 56.

I thought the unsigned wings + Breitling + Geneve + cursive B only came in later than '56, about 1960. I see in Kurt's review a similar dial purchased in 1963. Thats why I was curious on the serial.

To me that just means the watch hasnt been sold through AOPA but ratherby breitling themselves ?

I don't remember the exact serial number, but it was 871XXX. Possibly 8717XX, but the first three numbers are correct.

That is correct for 1956, it's impossible to say if it was born that way, but according to my believe, it's very likely that the dial for some reason was replaced later on.

Coincidently, another watch on eBay, early rice bezel and also showing cursive B + Breitling + Geneve + signed wings. Serial is very close too - 871683, dating it also to 1956. So, while not identical to sawgolf4me's watch (signed vs unsigned wings), this would be evidence that his branding is correct.

To sawgolf's original question, this one also marked "corp" but not in matching style to yours.
