Post subject: | Another beauty from S America..... |
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-1940s-B ... 725wt_1402 They can't turn them out fast enough and the sell like crazy.... but I still don't understand how they get so much good feedback? As for my own rant.... against my better judgment, I bought a fixer a couple of weeks ago (fairly rare Zodiac/R72) knowing that it could be a bad deal but not THIS bad! I have purchased fixers from S America several times but not in the last 7 or 8 years. ALL of them were BAD in the past (work done by HACK amateur "watchmakers") so I expected the worst. But this latest one was the winner (or biggest loser) by far. It appears that they threw (laterally) together the movement putting in as many bad or broken parts and then left a couple of parts out so that it would not run, then sell it as a fixer that "looked" OK. They also did not mention that the case ring was missing, something I have to fabricate as it is like no other. I estimate it will need around $300 worth of parts about 10 to 15 hours to restore. I have seen the same story over and over again when I get it watches for service or restoration. 9 times out of 10 when I ask the customer if they bought the watch from S America, I already know what the answer will be! My feedback for this seller: "COLLECTORS, RESTORERS, WATCHMAKERS, NEVER BUY A WATCH FROM S AMERICA" |
