| Post subject: | Early 1940's Breitling pre navitimer? |
I need some help identifying the model, movement and valuing this watch that I recently added to my collection. I believe everything except the crown and strap to be original but I'm not certain. The case is marked with 382109 on the back and Fond acier indxydable on the inside. The movement has the Breitling Stamp. The dial also has the Breitling signature as well as telemeter on the top. Well, let's see what others think, but I'm not convinced that either it or the other one started life as Breitlings. |

Breitling made some similar pieces to this, as did Montbrillant (the name used on dials prior to Breitling) - so did many other brands. On your watch the word Breitling on the dial has aged differently from the rest of the dial, which suggests (to me) that it was applied much later. The movement stamping is incorrect for the era, it's much later than the serial number of the watch would suggest. |

movement marking is wrong, no doubt; watch might be mid 30s Breitling, but I do not like the dial logo, seems added later. fonds acier ... indicates a base metal case for Breitlings, but watch seems SS, or is it replated ? just a side note: that ****** valuation is far, far off reality - even for a perfectly correct period piece. edit: Roff already answered, so just to confirm. Roff, why is H O D ..... off limits ? |
