Hi,

Any help here would be appreciated, it's coming up in an auction tommorrow. Unfortunatley no pictures of the movement or inside of caseback, rather an unusual dial, not seen on like this before.
It's in poor condition, but the case seems to correct for a 1192, right?

looks good, quite good indeed; dial/hands ok for mid 1950s ref. 1192, would be very surprised if the movement would not be the correct Venus 188.

Thanks for your help Watchfred, i think i'll be bidding on this tomorrow! Wasn't sold on the dial style/colours when i first found the listing a few weeks ago, but the more i see it the more i think i want it! The guide price seems quite good as well.

I'm struggling to find any more examples of this dial, apart from jlee5050's ref 1199 in this post:

Is this as rare as it appears? And if pushed, what do you think it's worth in it's current state? (non-working apparently).

I think this is going to be a good candidate for my first breitling restoration, since i have half a venus 188 movement from a disassembled Cadette to use for spares if absolutely necessary :(

dial is quite rare, but this does not really add relevant value, especially as it is not in the best shape; refinishing these according to the original is quite impossible.

as a non runner, w/o movement pics, I'd put the reasonable value around $300 max.

lol, have learnt from previous experience with antique books that rare doesn't mean valuable by any stretch of the imagination!

As far as the dials concerned, i'm quite happy with the aged look, and i'm not a fan of refinished dials anyway. May take the time to get the case professionally re-chromed though.

Watch has a guide price of £100-150 (plus 25% buyers fee etc) so we'll see where she ends up.....

I'm afraid I don't have this one anymore. But what I can recall is yes it's supposed to be a V188. Mine dated from 1959.

Of concern to me is the back. Seller sent me a picture of the inside of the back cover and it's really strange it has no serial number. I had a ref 1192 a few years ago and I'm pretty sure the back cover didn't look like this. Maybe a replacement cover so no serial number?

That cover looks mighty thin - you can see the Breitling stamp from the inside.

I thought so too. Looks like it might have been turned down on a lathe to remove material. The outside appears to be similar to a Chronomat 808 back cover but usually these covers have an engine turned look to the inside.

If it is indeed the same watch I believe it sold for £320 plus buyers premium on the day. I buy a resonable amount at auction here in the UK.

here's a 1194 w/ slightly different lugs, same model generation/dial - with serial number, of course.

I can confirm that this is definitely the exact same watch, and it did sell for £320 @ auction (plus 20% fee's), mine was the second to last bid, and i bailed out at £300!

It's about to finish, lets see what it goes for....
