It might be my eyesight, but............ I think its on the dial. There are some parts of the face where the scratch has not affected the text, taking only the background finish. But, in some places, it appears to be cutting through the printed text as well. The glass is scratched, but the clever reduced depth of field on the camera shot in the 3/4 position makes it impossible to verify scratches from another angle on the side in question. Also, the glass scratches don't show up as much in this location shot. Not that it’s a bad thing, but just that it’s hard to see from a photo image any consistent verification. Could also be lint and not scratches in some cases. Hard to tell. I guess you have to look at it from the age point of view. Some of the numbers on the outer D scale slide rule are also fading too. That’s more than likely down to age but could have meant it was roughly handled during some repair works, or perhapos the watch suffered glass breakage and face damage at some stage. Why they use tricky pics for listings and why no one lines up the bezels to see if the scales are out by a tick or two always amazes me. This puts a damper on best price or interest. Take it that the face is damaged and see if you still want to buy it at the price knowing it’s not perfect. If it turns out to be (taking the seller at his word) that the glass is scratched only, then maybe you will end up with a bargain of sorts. I would be making an offer, but probably he won’t accept anything greater than a 15% discount. I think it’s a bit over priced IMHO. Jim |

I was wondering, since this isn't marked AOPA inside the wings, would it be considered to be an AOPA? My understanding is AOPA means it was sold by the AOPA and is marked AOPA. I doubt these models with the AOPA missing from the wings were sold through the AOPA and technically shouldn't be considered AOPA pieces just because they have the wings. |
