What a proud heritage - and what indifference, disregard, incompetence in dealing with it.

this was listed from Spain yesterday: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BREITLING-CHRON ... 1029511337

typical 18k double caseback Landeron "tourist chronograph", refinished dial, but seller describes it as a 1938 gem.

and has the Breitling Grenchen letter to prove it.

a ref. 1868 ? Breitling apologizes for not engraving the movement ? WTF !
sometimes I wish I had not fallen in love with vintage Breitlings .... :shock:

Assuming that this letter is genuine then it is absolutely disgusting. We know that a lot of the historic records have been lost with the events around and leading up to 1978 and I have no problem with Breitling saying that they don't know (although they should with something this obviously wrong). But for them to effectively validate a fake is completely unacceptable - it undermines the market in vintage pieces and seriously damages their credibility. It is no better than saying that a Chinese fake tourbillon Chronomat 01 is real (and just as accurate).

this is too much, really. I will contact that lady to see if this lett is authentic, that level of negligent incompetence is pathetic.

This can pose a major problem if Breitling starts to do this more often. You'd have to think that they know that frankens exist.
