well, this one has me scratching my head, as I would have assumed it was impossible,
a 1964 Venus 178 case should not fit the Valjoux 72 movement (that has no manufacturer marking or import code) ?
dial does not have the V72 "Dracha OPA shrugging wings".

confused.

It's pretty easy to tell it isn't a Breitling Valjoux 72. Definitely a later, non-Breitling, movement. The difference in the design of the balance cock along with the minute jumper spring having two screws vs one (for a later model R72 which is adjustable) are just a couple of things that jump out. Isn't the Valjoux 72 Navitimer case supposed to have slightly offset pushers or something? Looks like a home made movement ring too.

Paul, yes, movement is clearly wrong, but as you state, the Valjoux case for the 806 should be different from the V178 version, with the asymmetrical pushers - afaik no such cases were manufactured in the 1960s - most definitely not in 1964, bezel looks off too, dial ring seems even later.

a very, very strange piece. but the "homemade" theory seems not too realistic, maybe Kurt has an idea how this thing could "happen". at least the seller does not claim it is a prototype.
