Please help identify this watch.

It is believed to have been acquired in France around 1920.

1 - The number 6948 carved on the cover is the serial number?
2 - What is the meaning of the marks carved inside?

I'm sorry, the watch is a fake (did it come from China?). The marks inside the caseback are watchmaker marks.

Not so sure it's a fake. I've had French 18k Breitlings from the same period (50's-60's) with the same gold markings. The reference number is in the ballpark for this period. It should still have a serial number somewhere though. Is there anything inside the back cover? Should be six numbers.

You might be right Paul - wouldn't be the first time that I was wrong, I just don't like the quality of the logos - maybe just the photos I guess.

looks ok to me, Roff, the Chines did not start w/ the applied dial logos yet afaik, though the movement engraving does look a bit off.
these were pre-CNC days, maybe the engraver had a bad day ?

I've loaded the photos with views of the back and inside that have been enhanced via image editing software in order to better understand the details, because as soon as they left the camera are not so noticeable.

ok, what we are definitely missing here is a period correct serial number, it does not appear to be on the outer caseback, could you please post a pic of the full inner caseback, iddeally without editing too much.

the dial looks fine to me, though the watch is clearly NOT from the 1920s, Breitling moved to Geneva only in 1952, the watch is from mid to late 1950s I think, might even be early 60s.

If there is no serial number on the watch, Roff might be right again :oops: , though that dial looks a bit to good to me ....

Currently the clock is in a vault, when it possible I´ll put a new image.

For now here it is an image of the back of the cover, taken through a watchmaker´s loupe.

This are the only details visible.

6948 would be the model number, not one that I recognize off the top of my head, but don't have references in the office.
