Post subject:  Real or fake?

Hi everyone,

I am new to the forum and Breitling watches are new to me. I am looking for a Breitling and am partial to the 1940s to mid-1950s Chronographs. Could someone tell me if this watch is a fake or provide any general tips on how to identify a fake of this vintage:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/200653153369?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_6610wt_

Also, this watch does not seem to fit with the classic Breitling style. Is it genuine and would the face be an original design or is this someone's personal fashion statement?

Thanks,

Mike

Yikes!

Yeah nothing ever started life anywhere near the Breitling factory from those two.

Thanks to both of you for keeping me from throwing away my money. I will keep looking and I hope you do not mind if I come back to you for advice again.

happy to help, feel free to post as many as you like to evaluate, I am sure you will soon learn to tell the differences. Have a look at some of the examples I posted, seller of the first watch imho is a front for the south american FrankenIndustries, the second watch is from Argentina ! Any watch from there ist most probably fake, have seen exceptions, but these then are often ridiculously overpriced ...

Thanks, I will try again.

There is a seller on Chrono24, Nina Durner, with a number of old Breitlings that appeal to me. Do you know the seller or have an opinion on the watches listed?

http://www.chrono24.com/en/dealer/3montana/liste.htm?dosearch=1&searchexplain=1&watchTypeId=U&MVAL=32&MODEL=&SEARCH_PMIN=0&SEARCH_PMAX=0&SEARCH_PCURR=USD&SORTORDER=1&STARTSEARCH=Display+offers

They are listed as a "trusted seller" but the watches look at lot like the fake ones in my earlier posting.

Also, do you have an opinion on this watch:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/400177966212?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

I appreciate the advice...thanks!

Didn't look at all of the Chrono24 ones, but don't like any of the ones that I did see.

The eBay piece looks OK to me, don't think that the crown and pushers are original, but that's minor.

re the Chrono24 ones, among them you will find an old "friend", the moonphase Datora 799 viewtopic.php?f=11&t=28100, now (not) selling at a 75% discount. seller seems to be (at least) closely related to Naxos000/enigma, some of these pieces are outright ridiculous, like the "1955 Top Time" blue dial Landeron !
quite disappointing that these are on Chrono24, actually.

like the ebay Top Time 2000 GP much more, dial is very nice, but case plating (lugs !) is not in the best condition and the caseback is quite heavily scratched, would doubt it will sell at this price point; maybe a little more patience ?

Thanks, you guys know your stuff. Unfortunately, it seems I have a natural talent for finding junk watches!

Returning to the Durner listing on Chron024, can you give me your opinion on these two:

http://www.chrono24.com/en/breitling/from-the-1930s--id1828613.htm

http://www.chrono24.com/en/breitling/1930s-moboile-lugs-chronograph--id1837024.htm

If you don't like these, I will move on to other sellers.

Thanks,

Mike

Post subject:  Re: Real or fake?

dislike both

3hands has an undocumented ref. no and no serial number, wrong logo on caseback;

the Venus chrono has a refinished dial, wrong bridge stamping for claimed period, no pic of caseback to - probably - hide the fact no ref. numbers and serial numbers appear on it. pictured inner caseback looks like it just came off the production line.

would assume neither watch ever came close to the Breitling factories.

moving away from this seller looks like a very good idea ......

Thanks for the advice.

What is the value of Chrono24's "Trusted Seller" designation or eBay's satisfaction rating system (I can't recall the exact language)? Should I simply ignore these? I assumed the sites had a some basis in reality when issuing these classifications.

Cheers,

Mike

Post subject:  Re: Real or fake?

actually thought that "trusted seller" status meant something on Chrono24 and I am surprised by the amount of (being very friendly) questionable watches this seller offers, so I verified what Chrono24 means by the "trusted seller" seal:
"
DURNER (BOULOGNE)

This seller is eligible for the Chrono24 Trusted Seller seal:
This seller has been a member of Chrono24 for at least 3 months
We have no knowledge about pending/unsolved disputes or complaints about this seller
The sellers payment balance at Chrono24 is in good standing.
Please note:
Chrono24 will give no warranty about the quality of goods sold and bought through the site. Negotiation of all terms and conditions of a sale are the sole responsibility of the respective buyer and seller.
"
hah !
translates to: has been listed for all of 12 weeks, there are no open disputes, he does not owe us any money, so trust this guy !
