Hi. Newbie to the forum and to Breitling. My uncle just caught the vintage bug (from me) and just recently bought this vintage Breitling. Unfortunately I knw nothing of Breitlings. More of an Omega collector myself. So here I am to ask for assistance. Honestly I think this watch is franken and he only told me about it after he won it! The watch has been bought and in transit. So any info will be more for educational purposes for both of us.
The watch:
Breitling bidynator 692 from 1950s Ref 4N817
Few things I've read (thanx to stickies): Breitling ref at that period should be 6 digit: XXXX XX OR XXXX/XX. So the ref given raises alarm already.
I have no idea of the case design if thats typical Breitling of that period. Crown is a replacement (ss with a gold case looks too wierd). Inconsistency in the dial script thickness pointing to a poor redialing effort. The movement looks ok. It looks like a Felsa but I'm not sure whether it is one that was originally for Breitling or taken from another with Breitling engraving done afterwards?
Your help is highly appreciated guys. Here are pics taken from the ebay listing.
Regards
