Up for sale is an extremely rare double-signed AOPA dial for a ref. 806 Breitling Navitimer (circa 1960s). What makes this dial so rare is that it has "Breitling," "Navitimer" AND the AOPA (Airplane Owners & Pilots Association) insignia. Usually these dials have "Breitling" and the AOPA insignia below, or the AOPA insignia where "Breitling" would otherwise be above and "Navitimer" below, but it is extremely rare for them to have all three.
As you can see from the pics, the dial is in nice patinated condition, with the usual darkening of the lume (it does not glow anymore), the black background somewhat faded and the lettering and numbering turned a gilt/coffee color. The subdials are a silvery color. Also included in the auction is a matching patina sliderule bezel ring insert, which has turned a creamy/coffee color with some color variation.
The dial is for a Venus 178 movement Navitimer (small subdials), not the later Valjoux 7740 movement Navitimer (large subdials).
Both parts are guaranteed to be genuine Breitling. The lightness at 8:00pm on the dial is the glare from the camera's flash, NOT a defect in the dial - see the last pic.
The price for the dial and bezel insert is $400 shipped. I am in New York City but can ship worldwide. Please contact John at
