Up for sale is a beautifully patinated original Navitimer 806. The dial has achieved a beautiful matte texture over time, and appears black in some light, with brown hues in others. This is the exclusive AOPA version, which does not say Breitling on the dial.
The AOPA Panda dial version Navitimer is more rare than the later "Twin Jet" or "Twin Plane" variation, and finding one that is untampered with has become increasingly difficult.
This watch was completely overhauled and serviced by Craig Bergsma of Chronodeco in October of 2014 and is keeping great time. All functions work as they should.
Analysis:
Case: Never refinished or polished. Original bevels still present. Shows signs of wear, some nicks, some scratches, but NO major dents or damage. Caseback has original finish and has not been sanded or brushed. Serial 102xxxxx present on inside caseback, indicating late 1964/early 1965 production.
Bezel: original notched bezel rotates smoothly
Crown: Original, correct "B" signed crown with 32 "small teeth"
Dial: Original and untouched, beautifully patinated condition with AOPA signed wings. Lume plots still glow a little after intense light exposure.
Slide Rule: excellent original condition
Hands: original tritium hands in good condition.
Movement: correct WOG and Breitling signed Venus 178, in excellent condition, serviced in October 2014 by Chronodeco. The watch received a new crystal and mainspring at that time.
Strap: the watch will not come with a strap
