Post subject:  SOLD: Breitling Navitimer 806 beads of Rice 1956 AOPA V178

It all started when Breitling & AOPA decided to develop a revolutionary watch with a built-in chronograph and navigation computer (sliderule). Breitling Switzerland has indicated production began in 1952, but it's my strong belief that the first Navitimers became available in 1954.

AOPA (Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association) immediately decided to make it their official watch, and in that way the first Navitimer was born with AOPA's beautiful official wing logo displayed on its dial.

The movement they used in 1954, and the first half of 1955, was the famous Valjoux 72. In the beginning, it didn't have a reference number printed on the back. It wasn't until 1955 that the reference number officially became 806. Nobody knows for certain how many Navitimers were produced with the Valjoux 72 movement , but it's beyond any doubt that it was a very limited number, thus the Valjoux 72 Navitimer has become a kind of cult watch for Navitimer collectors all over the world.

This Navitimer serial number is 868780 Year production 1956 1st Generation has a movement V178 The case of the watch is almost flawless and had a very minimal wear at all. The crystal has some light blemishes and it can be buffed out. I never polished the case and the gold plaque is in mint condition. Brand new leather breitling was put on by the Breitling store in Orlando FL last week.

All mechanics are functioning perfect and the chronometer is setting to 0 at 12:00 o'clock. The movement is working strong and I have to say that the condition is very very clean. The crown opens and close tight and pushers are working with no issues. The dial had never been re-lumed or re-done. It has a nice patine on the dial and all original and it was verified by Breitling sales team. I don't wear this watch but I make sure it is wound it everyday. The dial is in very good condition and not flaked.

This watch was originally owned by the pilot and it was stored in the safe box for over 25 years.

This would be a great addition to anyone collection and I can assure you this is THE NICEST 806P on the market.

I will consider a partial trade on another Breitling or other brand name watches plus cash to me.

beautiful watch - but just to make that clear: this is a Venus 178, not a Valjoux R72.
and it's early 1956.

Yes. Venus 178. I was told by the Breitling team that this is from early 1955 but could be wrong.
I will update the ad with the correct info. This picture was taken from the Breitling catalog in the Orlando Boutique.
Thanks again!

would you be so kind to explain why all your sales listings, be it ebay or omegaforums, fail to mention your ref. 806 has a Venus V178, but describe how the "Valjoux 72 Navitimer has become a cult watch" - and we told you several times this is NOT a "1955 1st generation" !

quoting from your ebay Germany listing:

"The movement they used in 1954, and the first half of 1956, was the famous Valjoux 72. In the beginning, it didn't have a reference number printed on the back. It wasn't until 1955 that the reference number officially became 806. This Navitimer serial number is 868780 Year production 1955 1st Generation. The case of the watch is almost flawless and had a very minimal wear at all. The crystal has some light blemishes and it can be buffed out. I never polished the case and the gold plaque is in mint condition. Brand new leather breitling was put on by the Breitling store in Orlando FL last week. "

I know that I am acting against forum rules here and apologize for this, Roff & Driver8, but I think potential buyers here should know that.

Not sure what rules you think that you are breaching Fred - I can't find any, and potential buyers have the right to know as much as possible about any potential purchase.

I did changed to 1956. It was an honest mistake and I correct it. I checked the serial numbers and it goes back to 1956. Thank you!
