Up for grabs is a lovely Breitling Professional B1 Superquartz, the A78362.
This Chronometre certified model, which incorporates the Breitling 78 SuperQuartz movement (based on the ETA Thermoline E20.341), was officially produced between 2002 to 2006. This is one of the very latest produced (in fact, it's from April 2007, according to the bracelet reference). I've just had Steve at Ryte Time inspect the movement for me, and fit a new battery, which should be good for 2-3 years. The thermocompensated SuperQuartz movement is officially accurate to 15 seconds per year according to Breitling, or just 10 seconds per year according to ETA! In most cases, the Superquartz exceeds even those figures - I've had this about 6 weeks, and it hasn't gained or lost a second.
It is the very smart 'Slate' Grey Dial version, and is in extremely good condition. For those unfamiliar with the B1, it was the predecessor of the Airwolf, which uses the same movement, and has similar features: Time; Perpetual Calendar; 1/100th second Chronograph; Second Time Zone (T2); UTC Time; Dual Alarms (Main time and T2); Countdown Timer; Selectable Hourly Chime; Digital Display Off option; Backlight.
Selection of the various features is all achieved through the Crown, with the pushers used as 'action' buttons - it's all in the manual, and great fun to play with...!

CONDITION REPORT:
Crystal: The Sapphire Crystal is in perfect condition. The Anti-reflective coating is in very good order - there's an extremely faint hairline by the marker at 8, and under a loupe you can find some micro marks, but really very minimal, and hard to find - certainly not visible under normal conditions.
Dial: 'Slate' Dark Grey Dial, dual Digital Display Windows, Applied lumed markers/numerals. Tachymeter/Slide Rule Chapter ring. Immaculate condition, lume is superb.
Hands: Hour and Minute hands are slim steel 'swords', with a luminous fill. The central Seconds/Chronograph hand is steel, needle style with a red tip, and a fancy 'B' counterbalance. All excellent, and again, the lume glows like a torch, and lasts for a good spell.
Case: The case is a classic diver-style, in a high-polish steel. Condition is excellent, one or two very minor swirls at worst. I've given it a gentle polish, and it really does look superb - even on the high-polish finish, I'm struggling to find anything detrimental. Certainly no nasty dinks or gouges, or even shiny edges.
Caseback: The caseback is the fantastic 'Jet Engine' style, a 15-sided screwback type. Markings are clear, including Model and Serial numbers, with some very light hairline scratches, but nothing nasty - see photos.
Bezel: There is a bidirectional steel bezel, with a sawtooth-edge, which rotates correctly with a soft resistance for feel (like on the Hercules). Engraved with Diver's increments (60 minute countdown). The black 'fill' is in super condition, no fading or loss. Lumed 'pip' at 12. Signed in Script 'B' on bezel edge at 54. Some very light marks on the bezel, if you're really looking for them. I just spotted a very minor nick, right on the edge of the bezel by the '15' marker - didn't notice it except under the close-up macro lens, which gives you an idea of how small it is...
Crown/Pushers: Original 2 position Push-Down ridged-edge steel crown, clear 'B' signed. Two steel pushers. Really nice condition, and all work perfectly.
Movement/Running: I've had this for about 6 weeks, and performance has been perfect. I've just had Steve at Ryte Time inspect this for me, and fit a new Renata CR2320 battery, so should be good for at least 2 years, considerably more if you don't use the backlight much. Please note that the watch has not been pressure tested - the B1 is only rated at 50M anyway, and not really designed for prolonged immersion in water - even sealed, I'd only expect basic water resistance. The Breitling-signed 78 Calibre SuperQuartz movement is in excellent order, and as accurate as you can get. All functions work perfectly.
Bracelet: Original Full size (10 Link) 874A Fighter Bracelet. This is similar to the Pro II, except that the centre links are in a satin-brushed finish, rather than all polished as on the Pro II. Still good definition between the polished and brushed surfaces - centre sections just starting to polish up. Very nice condition, the inevitable 'desk-diver' hairlines and swirls, hard to avoid especially on the high-polish surfaces, but nothing nasty. Not stretched or loose. Will comfortably fit up to an 8.5" (215mm) wrist. The Breitling-signed Foldover clasp with micro-adjustment holes is also in very nice condition, some light swirls. I've gently polished/rebrushed both the bracelet and clasp, and both look very good. The bracelet is correctly signed 874A and with a reference of S1407, dating it to April 2007.
Box/Papers: The previous owner had recently sourced a Brand New Box set for this, so you get the very smart Outer box (the multiple planes lid, yellow base), the Inner Bakelite Black Box (still has factory seal on it), the inner Leather Travel/Display Box with Display Cushion, Instruction Manual, Authorised Distributors List and Slide Rule. All in mint condition. The whole lot is in yet another white box, which is a bit tatty, and the whole package will be sent in a cool shockproof padded box. I don't have the original Warranty Card, or the COSC Certificate (the previous owner did order a replacement COSC, and subsequently lost it - doh).
Measurements: Width (without Crown): 43.2mm. Thickness: 16.5mm. Lug-to-lug: 50mm. Lug Width 22mm. Weight 191 grams
Other: The B1 wears quite large at 43mm across without Crown/Pushers (I'm gorilla wristed at 8.2", and it's fine on me). It's got a serious amount of weight to it as well (191g), and has a real wrist presence. I guess you'd call it a tool watch, but the less common 'Slate' Dial is quite dressy and elegant, and looks very smart. The Digital Display can be turned off, which is a useful option if a more traditional appearance is desired.
This is a lovely example of the B1, condition is excellent. These do just about everything except make the tea, and even if I say so myself, the condition on this one is about as nice as it gets. There's a couple of flecks on the AR Coating if you are really looking for them, and some very light 'Desk Diver' swirlies on the case and bracelet, but for a nigh-on 5 year old watch, I think this is a cherry - I've seen 3 month old watches that don't look as nice as this.
On the 'bay, the earlier non-Chronometer B1's (the non-SuperQuartz A68362) seem to start for around £1200, and go up to £1700 or more! A similar one to mine, but older, with an incomplete bracelet and a scratched crystal, went for well over £1400!
I'll put this up at an extremely reasonable £1275. The price includes Next Day Courier Delivery for UK Bidders - It's a heavy package (just over 2kgs) and will cost me about £15.00 to post. If you're overseas, you will need to contact me for exact Shipping costs based on destination. I'll shoulder the first £15 costs, but there will be a minimum surcharge of £5 for Western Europe, up to a maximum £20 for Asia/Australia. I'll use a courier (Fed-Ex/UPS) for safer Tracked Shipping.
I reckon that's a very good deal for someone out there, so the price is firm. Trades/PX offers welcome, but I'm trying to rationalise the collection a bit, so ideally would prefer a straight sale.
