Post subject:  TIP for new rules ?

Hi,

I recently buy'd a B-ling here on the forum from Willows.
I'm also a forum addict and read it every day. There are a lot of tips and very beautiful sellings here.

Only, i miss one thing ... if i want to buy a watch at the prices on this forum i would like to know as much information as possible.
Most of the 'time' the information i want isn't here, like (warranty) date on the certificate, is the watch ever been serviced, is it serviced at a official dealer, when is this done ... ect.

My tip: Make a new rules with a 'standard' text to start a tread.
This is a example: (red could be in the rules)

FS (or WTB / Trade) Breitling Super Ocean
Year: 2009
Dial: white
Bracelet: Pro II
Box: yes
Papers: yes

Serviced: no
Date:
Official A/D: yes / no

Other information about the watch, payment, ... here .......
Pictures .....

This is only a TIP so i made a poll about it, please make a vote :wowzers

Thanks for this great forum and thanks to this forum i have a beautiful Breitling B1 :cheer:

regards

Having a template is not a bad idea, might help buyers new to Breitling who do not know the questions to ask.

Good thought I think.

I must admit I do not like it when a post starts "well you all know the specs for this model". Actually some may but I don't always. Another forum I frequent has this suggestion at the top of the section for sales.

1. Model
2. Diameter
3. Condition
4. Asking-price
5. Age
6. Availability of box and papers
7. Shipping-costs
8. Current location of watch

Of course people would still have to read it and actually follow the guideleins.

And that's the big problem.

I'd be happy for it to go into the guidelines as a suggestion, but as a mod I wouldn't want it to be a hard and fast rule per se, as I don't want to have to police every single sales thread to check that everyone has added all 8 or 9 pieces of required information. It's often a challenge just to ensure that a price is there, let alone anything else!

Obviously if a template with mandatory fields could be set up, then great, but I have a feeling the forum software won't support that. It's one for Admin I think.

:yeahthat

You don't have to look very far to find threads where people already have problems following the rules, even commenting that they didn't know there were any or that they had posted without reading them.

To add additional rules will not only make moderation a lot harder, it may also discourage potential sellers - we always try to be flexible and relaxed here, and while the Buy / Sell / trade section is (understandably) the most regulated area, it is still more accessible than some other places.

Ultimately, if a seller wants to sell their watch then it's in their interest to post as much information as possible, and if people want more details then they are free to ask publicly or privately.

I do think a template would be helpful, but for some of the reasons stated above (software issues, discouraging sellers, etc.), I don't think it should be required. Maybe a generic template could be posted in the "Announcemnts" section by a site admin. When a poster doesn't follow the rules on a new sales post, they can be told what they forgot to include and informed that there is a sales template they can copy and paste into their post if they like, which includes all necessary information fields to sell their watch on this site.

I suppose 'let buyer beware' is the best way to go from all fronts
