Post subject:  Superocean strap question about waterproofness??

Hello everyone, I just got a superocean abyss 42 with the blue inner bezel and it came on the black/blue superocean strap with tang buckle.

The strap feels like leather but looks like rubber and is edged in blue and the underlining is blue as well.
I do not dive but regularly wear my watch in the pool. I read on some sites that these straps are waterproof and others saying they are not.

Was wondering what the truth is? Thanks for the help

I'm not aware of any Breitling OEM rubber straps that are two toned, and I'm not aware of any OEM leather straps that have a blue lining. Could you possibly share a pic?

It's a relatively recent introduction Aleister to go along with the new coloured rehauts on dive style watches. I've not seen any claims about it being water resistant and would be wary of immersing it.

I can't produce a direct link, but if you go to

http://www.breitling.com/en/models/supe ... o-measure/

- then click on 'Straps', you'll see there's a 'Superocean: black/royal blue'.

This is a generic link to my watch and the OEM strap that is on it
http://www.prestigetime.com/item/Breitl ... -1lts.html
If you read in the description it says:
"Superocean leather strap with Abyss Blue edges, specially treated to prevent water damage."

I think the general view on here when they were intro/d, and as suggested by Roff above, is, they may handle getting wet better than regular leather, but can't possibly be as good for that purpose as bracelet or rubber...

I've been away for too long. :) I checked it out in person and as this is leather, it's a bad idea to take it for a swim... They might have coated the leather with something to improve the resistance but it's still leather.

This is the way i see it, its an OEM strap that comes on a DIVE watch, if it wasnt meant to get wet it shouldnt have been offered with the watch. With being said, since it says it can handle getting wet, i will wear this watch in the water and see how it goes. If i have to go back to my AD and order another strap down the line then so be it.
I really like the look of this strap over the bracelet and the rubber/silicone straps so i will enjoy this watch fully and not baby it at all

Although of course that "DIVE" watch fails to meet the ISO standard for a dive watch.

Thats fine with me bc im not a diver. Im like "everyone" else who buys a dive watch; they get them bc they love the style and dont have to worry about water resistance since the watch will never get deeper than 20ft of water
