I just bought a calf skin black strap for my watch. Can u guys tell me if I can waterproof the strap as to speak and how to clean it..any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.. Thank you guys in advance |

Aleister's advice here is relevant for cleaning - viewtopic.php?f=29&t=57200. No experience on waterproofing and slightly dubious of such treatments as the leather needs to be able to breathe and many of the waterproof coatings simply create a physical barrier that prevents that. |

How waterproof do you want the strap to be? If you'd condition the strap after cleaning with a light beeswax that will give some waterproofing. Waterproofing to the extent of a diver strap might be possible if you use a teflon spray, but I'm quite sure that will change both the color and the overall feel of the strap. |

I followed the above instructions and the leather strap faded in a few places. Not sure if that can be fixed or not so I ordered another calf strap. Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated as I'm hoping this won't happen again. On the now faded strap I washed it w dawn soap and then pat dried it. I then used a leather cleaner/conditioner used for jackets etc..and that totally ruined the strap.. Thanks in advance again. |

Sorry to hear about that experience. Did you also follow he last instruction; As always, try to use your choice of product on a small hidden area first, to make sure that you don't get into changes/surprises.? If it's faded, I know that a fellow member darkened his strap by padding olive oil to the strap. Should be searchable in the forum - not sure but I think it was BoneDoc. I don't have any other advice than the one's already given - they've worked for me. |
