I have an amazon special which cost somewhere around £60 and on clockwise my sieko maintains time but my rothenchild stops. I need to have it on clockwise and anticlockwise for them both to be maintained. It does have rest periods as well though.

However for the Navi World I have on order, and on recommendation from this forum and a specialist website which lists the BNW auto winding requirements (sorry the name slips my mind but do a quick search on watch winding on here), I bought a Wolf winder (cost around £135) that I can set to clockwise 800 turns per day.

I'll take the chance on watches up to a few hundred £££'s but not on one that costs as much as the Breitling does!!!

My father purchased a watch winder to use for his Crosswind. It is a single and I just looked on an internet search and it is very like a Chinese example so it did not come across as a good example! Anyway every winder I have looked at always has some sort of menu or time setting. This one either goes clockwise or counter clockwise and it has never stopped or rested just goes on and on! Well the problem is the watch often stops after removal from the winder! So it is placed in over night after working perfectly all day. It goes round etc. all night and next morning he put the watch on. Sometime during the day he notices the watch has the wrong time displayed indicating it has stopped at some point!? Do the watches need to be turned at a particular speed? Is the rest period other winders al mention need to happen? Last night I popped in my Super Ocean and it is normally spot on and it lost a minute. If I wind it and leave it on the side all night it remains on perfect time. What is happening here? Any ideas, or is it a case of a rubbish winder? Should he start looking for a replacement?

I will add my fathers watch was recently serviced by an AD and all is correct. Again, same experiment and wind up his Crosswind 40 turns, leave on the side, and it keeps perfect time! Pop it in the winder and it acts as if it was not kept wound? Yet it is turning constantly! This happens either direction. \|A rough time for a completer revolution of the watch is 5 seconds. If this helps?

Well the winder isn't ideal if it is turning constantly - especially as fast as 5 seconds per rotation - that's over 17,000 revolutions per day which is completely ridiculous. But....... The winder shouldn't be causing a watch to stop or lose excessive time so don't see an obvious solution to what is causing it. The high speed and constant rotation is reason enough to not use that winder but I can't logically connect that with stopping.

As Roff says, the behaviour of the winder and the behaviour of the watch make no connected sense, but I've heard more than enough about the winder to throw it away.

The Rothenchild isn't winding clockwise because it is a unidirectional movement that requires anticlockwise rotation. The website recommended for checking direction and turns is Orbita which has a database of all movements and watches. For Breitling the information is also contained in the model pages here.
