Post subject:  Watch winder for Navitimer 01

Hi,

I have recently bought a Navitimer 01 and I want to buy a watch winder for it. There seems to be such a variety of makes and prices so I am confused. I looked on the Orbita site and it said my watch needed 800 tpd both ways. Does this mean I need 1600 so that it gets 800 turns each way? Can anyone recommend a suitable one around the £200 mark please?
Thanks in anticipation Mike

Brookstone watch winder. I've had mine for 5 years now, whisper quite and they've never failed me. I have the quad winder but they come in a single, double, and quad. Not sure if they are available overseas but look on ebay, you can get em cheaper on there.

No, "both" really means either, it needs 800 turns per day total in either direction or a combination thereof.

Brookstone are elusive in the UK. Wolf have a UK website (and forum sponsors AMJ now stock them). At c£200 I'd recommend

http://uk.wolfdesigns.com/watch-winders/viceroy-single

- which is multi-adjustable.

On the TPD question, on nearly all winders 800 tpd would simply be set at 800 tpd clockwise, anti-clockwise, or bi-directionally (as Roff says), but on the 2.7 movement Wolfs (as in that link) it would be set at 400 bi-directionally.

Thanks for all the info. You have suggested on the wolf viceroy that I set it at 400 bidirectional, but on the link you gave me it says in features "double the tpd for bidirectional. I also read on one of the forums that before you put the watch on the winder it should be wound 40 times, is this correct.
Is there a limit to the amount of time you should leave the watch on the winder ?
Thanks to everyone for your help Mike

This thread is probably worth reviewing on winders in general - viewtopic.php?f=6&t=23867

TomP pointed out that the 2.7 is 'weird' in that it doubles the turns on bi-directional, so as it says in the link setting it for 400 bi-directional is 800 turns, unlike most others. You can set it for 800 CW or 800 CCW for the same result.

Thanks Roff. I didn't realise this topic could be so mind boggling. What does the difference in numbers mean, eg 2.1, 2.7 and 4.1 ?

Those are just the Wolf Designs model numbers for their different winder motors.

Thank you all. Have just bought the Wolf Viceroy as suggested. I really appreciate all the help.
Happy Christmas Mike

You will be happy with that one. I have the Viceroy 2.7 and it is super quiet. I have my old Navi II winding in it at 800tpd and it keeps very close time on that watch when i am not wearing it.
