Post subject:  What strap wears smaller? rubber or leather?

I just bought a mint 2010 Slate Grey Avenger Skyland on bracelet online and it's in the post as I write this. Very excited :lingsrock:

Thing the full polished bracelet will be too much for me and I plan to wear it either on the Ocean Racer rubber or Breitling calf leather strap.

I have quite small wrists and with the Avenger being such a chunky watch, I'd like to go for the strap that lease likely to make the watch appear even bigger/chunky on my wrist.

Unable to test drive either on my Avenger, could anyone tell me whether the leather or rubber would tend to wear smaller on the wrist?

If you go with a rubber strap like the ocean racer or the pro diver with the deployment clasp it is a very comfortable alternative to the stainless bracelet, plus the quick adjust clasp offers great adjustability. The leather straps are comfortable too, but will make the watch feel a bit more top heavy. I would go with the rubber with a deployment clasp.

I would say the exact opposite for the same reason - the rubber does match the size of the Avenger better because it is thicker than leather / croc and the OR clasp is much larger than either tang or deployant for leather so if you want it to look smaller I would go with that - rubber makes the whole thing look more balanced, but that's going to be very large.

I find rubber works better with a heavy watch head on my modest wrists just because, until the leather is really broken in - and that takes a good while with a quality Breitling one - it's easier to get a good balanced fit on the wrist. But that's fit; and Roff's right - it is thicker so it certainly won't make it look any smaller.

Weight balance between the band and watch head might be better with rubber. I think rubber looks larger in scale to the watch, maybe even moreso than stainless. In my experience, if you are wearing a long sleeve shirt, rubber can be bulkier than even a thick metal bracelet. For me, it's a short sleeve option only. Leather, IMO, wears a little smaller, takes some weight off the wrist, and is less bulky, and I don't think it looks out of scale.

I read it as though he was looking for a balanced feel, not look. My mistake.

Based on my experience with my 44 and 43mm Breitlings, I'd definitely agree with Roff. Leather makes them wear smaller, and rubber gives a bulkier, balanced look.

I had my aerospace in rubber which made it look small. I now have it on pro II and it appears larger now.

Yep I think leather will bring it down. I had an AS and tended to wear it on calf.
