Post subject:  Strap knowledge needed...

So I'm picking up my first "new" Breitling from my AD next week. It's the 2012 Avenger/ silver dial. I'm getting it with the pro II but want to grab a rubber and leather for variety. I've done my reading here and believe I need a 1.8 spring bar. But as I sit here looking at a Breitling catalog/price book for strap options, I see straps categorized by model! ( ie: diver pro, ocean racer) I thought there was just a few rubbers and maybe a few leathers that would fit all based on lug size. Obviously NOT, lol. So with all this said what should I be looking at strap wise for my Avenger. Any help, experience and photos appreciated :)

The 2012 Avenger has 22mm lug width, and all the straps Breitling has come in either 22mm or 24mm widths. So whichever strap you decide on it will fit given its the right size, and the 1.8 is the correct spring bar size. Personally I like the Ocean Racer the best, they wear the most comfortable.

Ok so the "model" / name of strap doesn't matter. As long as I grab a 22mm lug I'm good.
Cool, now I gotta find photos of all the different styles.
Thanks :)

After browsing the options something's seem so easy, lol.
Pro diver III looks perfect. The deployment and recessed lettering is convenient, classy and sporty. Plus saves the trouble of cutting it down.
But what's up with the register leather. I love the simple leather look with the white stiching, but no deployment... Really?

There are leather straps that have a tang buckle, and then there are leather straps that come on a deployment buckle. The croc straps are significantly more money than the calf, but they both look good IMO.

Ok cool, yeah I'm cool with the calf leather but would prefer the deployment as it would extend the life and look if the band so much longer.

That is available, but the straps are different for tang / deployant - no holes on the deployant version.

Hey guys, can anyone explain why straps are described with slashes. For ex: 22/20, 24/20... Etc. I thought if your lug width was let's say 20mm then that's what you need. But I don't understand the ratio thing??
Thanks

22/20 means 22mm lug width, 20mm buckle width
etc.

Ahhh, so long the first number is always the lug width. So depending on whether you want a thinner or wider band you reference the second one.
Great thanks Fred

It's not just choice, it what works with your buckle / deployant. If you are replacing an OEM Breitling strap, but only the strap then you have to stay with the Breitling size at both ends or it won't fit properly.
