Been tempted for a while to try a rubber strap on my Avenger and finally emailed Andrew Michaels to check on price and availability.

As the price wasn't as shocking as I'd thought, it convinced me that the time I'd spent waiting for "the right one" one to turn up in the for sales in the UK had been wasted and I ought to go ahead and get one.

But which one..?

The face is blue and I wanted a blue strap so that bit's easy.

I can't really justify the price of the push button folding clasp, so the choice of tang is easy too (though if anyone can tell me if I can retro-fit the folding clasp later that would be useful)

And as my steel Professional II bracelet is brushed, brushed rather than polished tang is the way to go.

I just can't decide if I want a II or a III. When I was looking for a yellow M1, I definitely wanted the black Hershey, but now I've got the blue Avenger instead and it has been on my wrist for a few months, I'm leaning towards the simpler look of the II rather than the Hersheyesque III.

Help!

I vote for DP3, DP2 is just too boring.

And DP3 has "in your face" lettering indeed, but looks A LOT better and modest then the lettering on the old-fashioned DP1 strap.

Just one opinion though! :)

The III is very comfortable, feels softer than the II. As for retrofitting the deployment I think you won't be able to do it, although the tang buckle is comfortable as well, just doesn't offer the same amount of adjustment.
Go with the III you won't be disappointed, also on blue that's going to look sweet!

I own a DP II which was originally on the watch and also a DP III. Since I have the DP III I hardly ever put on the II again. The lettering on the III is not as "in the eye" as one would judge from the pictures. I'd go for the III.

I'm not a big fan of the lettering, I personally find it less classy somehow. I'd got for DPII. With regards to buckle and tang versus deployment clasp, I think the clasp is not worth the cost for a rubber strap, but is a good option for leather to increase its lifespan.

Hmmm. 3 1 in favour of the III.

I'm still leaning towards the II though.

Time for some more procrastination, methinks.

I like the 2, was never a huge fan of the giant "breitling" on the strap.

:yeahthat

The lettering on the III is much less obtrusive in the flesh and on the wrist than in pics. Supremely comfortable.

(As an aside, did they keep producing the II when the III came out? If not then a II would be older, and rubber does perish, albeit slowly.)

Ocean Racer is a good option as well. Very comfortable and classic Breitling styling. Whatever you chose will be a good choice.

Thanks for all the help. I've tried to convince myself that I ought to get dp iii, but I'm still not sure it's really me.

I've asked Ricardo to have a look in the stock room and see if he can dig out a blue dp ii

I've got a blue DP II at the moment, and faced with decision of what to buy next... it'll be a DP III :-) But then again, I prefer the lettering on the DP I and III

II for me, the lettering has always seemed cartoonish and cheap, JMO.

I think you will be happier with the II. I struggled between the II and III, but in the end I opted for the cleaner look of the II with a deployant. The writing just seemed a little too flashy. Post a pic when you put the band on.

Will do.

Should be here mid next week.

Am going to try the deployant but am starting out with the tang to see if I get on ok with the rubber.
