I use soap and water on my watch before using Cape Cod, but still LOTS of dirt gets picked up with the Cape Cod, do you typically clean it so well that there is no dirt on the Cape Cod when you polish your watch? Thanks

It's not dirt - it's the metal rubbing off on the Cape Cod cloth.

It's normal - that's what cape cod (or any other polish) does - remove metal to polish the watch.
