Hey guys, so i just picked up my Colt Auto 1 A17350. It comes on a fighter bracelet that looks really nice but i am thinking of buying a strap to be able to change things up. It is a fairly small watch at 38mm and heard that a strap might make it look bigger or dressier. I'll post some pictures so you can see. I was thinking about a roma hornback crocodile strap but i don't think they make them in 18mm. Thanks in advanced for all of your help!

Well, assuming you can get one to fit, there is no reason that I can see as to why this watch might look bigger or dressier with a strap instead of the bracelet. That goes for all watches IMO. There are many things that determine how it might look. Colour, finish, etc all play a part on the overall effect. Colour can affect the appearance of size to an extent, but its marginal at best and I would not concern myself with it.

Just note that the strap will be a simple an open lug arrangement at the springbars, as you will not get covers for the lug space necessarily. That can look odd on some watches, I admit. Some straps in PU come with moulded lug covers, but they are rare in my estimation. Better to stay with a simple strap design.

Try a few on at your AD or watchmaker if possible and determine yourself how each looks on the watch. It’s all personal preference. I really don’t think straps are key to ‘Dress’ watches either, although some might fell that’s the case. They make no difference to me, either way.

Happy strap hunting. 8)
