Hello. I today received my new Breitling Chrono with a leather strap. I would like suggestions on where to purchase a deployment clasp for it. I find no info on the Breitling site. Thanks.

Order through an AD - there are a lot of very good fakes on places like eBay. The website doesn't tend to feature clasps but an AD can order one if they don't have one in stock (which they likely do).

I imagine this isn't necessary but just in case, if your strap has a tang buckle, then the Breitling deployant will not work on it as the strap must be made specifically for the deployant. If this is the case, there are aftermarket deployants which are IMO more comfortable in some cases than the Breitling one. If your wrist is smaller, you (like I) may find the Breitling to be really uncomfortable.

In order to work with the Breitling deployant without modification, the strap should look like this

Breitling has two deployant types. One they use with their leather, like this

and one they use for dive straps, like this

The one they use for leather is IMHO rather expensive for what you get, not all that secure, and uncomfortable for many people with much larger or smaller size wrists. My wrist is too small and after about 15 minutes, this thing makes it hurt.

The one for dive straps is, IMHO, the finest deployant made by any manufacturer I have ever tried on. It costs a few bucks more, but it's lock is sturdy, fit and finish is second to none, is adjustable (this is a really, really great feature), and it looks sharp. You can use it for straps, but the strap that will best blend with it will usually be a custom-made one.

If your strap is not made for deployants and you do not want to sell/re-buy, there are numerous aftermarket buckles out there. Some are single hinged like the Breitling, and others are double hinged (I like these more for my wrist). Some have locks on them, and some do not. My favorite deployant for a regular strap is actually only $7-8, and I've purchased over 30 different ones from many different makers with some costing over ten times that amount.

It is made by a large Chinese maker so you see them from a variety of sellers...here is where I purchased them (hope this is ok to link to!) http://www.ebay.com/itm/20MM-STAINLESS- ... 35c3a8cae9

Also, if you want something of higher quality and that locks, the RHD is a nice intermediate at like 40 bucks

Keep in mind the $8 will not work well with exceptionally thick straps where as the RHD (and ones made from other similar makers) will

It is worth pointing out though Nick that those clasps won't work with Breitling OEM or Breitling style deployant straps as those clasps need holes in the leather for the clasp to join to.

Personally I have an OEM clasp for my Breitlings, and then an aftermarket breitling style clasp I use on some of my cheaper watches. e.g. http://www.waccex.de/catalog/product_in ... ts_id=1149

That's a good point which left my mind. :p I know a lot of people who like the OEM Breitling style ones...my wrist is so small that I find the single-folds really uncomfortable for some reason. I've tried the OEM Breitling one on a few occasions without luck and eventually settled on having straps custom made to use the deployant they have for the dive straps or using the PAM-style Pre-V tang buckles.
