Hi everyone,

Tonight I was using a Scotch Bright pad to try to get rid of a small scratch on the end link closest to the watch. I have used Scotch Brights on the rest of the bracelet successfully a couple of times over the past two years to remove scratches, but for some reason the end link looks scuffed instead of brushed. I don't know if this is because it is rounded and catches the light differently...but it definitely doesn't look great.

A couple things - I didn't remove the bracelet to do this repair - I taped the lugs and the side of the bezel first. Second, I have read (and re-read tonight) the article here on repairing brushed surfaces.

So I was wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this? If so what did you do to fix it?

I'm about to buy a DP II or III for it, so I won't have to look at it all the time, but it looks lousy and will drive me crazy until improved.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Mike

I assume that you used the same type (colour) of pad and only brushed in one direction?

No I rubbed it in a circular motion....is that what caused this?

Just kidding. :) Of course I ran the pad in a straight line . I have only used the green pads, since I have owned this watch. I was going to go by an auto parts store to see if they had the extra fine pads (beige IIRC but I may be wrong).

I actually think I made it a lot better - almost like it was before I caused this. I fixed it with the pad - but used much less pressure than I did before. Eventually it started to blend in a lot better.

So it's not perfect, and there are still some minor scratches on the lugs that I won't touch. But the end piece looks fine now.

I wear this watch a lot....I have a couple of G Shocks for when I goto the gym or am doing yardwork, but I wear the Steelfish a lot, and while I try to be careful it has been banged around a little more than I like. I guess scratches are inevitable and part of owning a watch. But I think I'm going to take it to either an AD or a good jewelry store and have it properly fixed. Then I will try to consciously be more careful of it.
