Post subject:  Venus 170 issues

I have another one for you, I have a Venus 170 chrono movement. The off centre driving wheel and third wheel get stuck. I've have a good look at the condition of the gear teeth on the wheels and they seem find and it doesn't seem to be a certain tooth that gets caught. I'm not 100% sure why this is happening maybe a worn jewel or something?

If anyone has had something similar can you please let me know how you resolved this.

Thanks,

Chris

Depthing?

Jewel would likely cause the arbor to tilt which should be visible, but depthing may cause the wheels to bind. Alternatively it could be damage to the arbor pivots and only appearing to be a wheel issue.

I've taken eveything out except the two wheels, sorry the photo isn't great quality but this is the position of the wheels when they get stuck. Unfortunately I don't have a depthing tool.

I don't see anything obvious, but obviously I can only see half of it there. If it were jewel or arbor related you will likely see that the wheels aren't parallel to one another.

Looks parallel. Check the teeth for a burr or something, it's a relatively simple interaction so a limited number of things that it could be, but I'm guessing at specifics without seeing an obvious problem.

Ah ha, sussed it. There was a screw protruding through the top plate, meaning the of centre drive wheel was catching it. I think someone must have played with this before I recived it as I put screw back in once the part has been removed. It wasn't obvious until Ii placed just one wheel in at a time, I'll have to remember if it happens again.

Thanks for the help Roffensain I've now leant about depthing.
