Hi all, I have an old Bulova Chronograph with a valjoux 23 movement, when I aquired it I needed to replace the escape wheel (part number 705) but other than that the movement is the same. The problem I'm having is its fast, very fast. About 10 - 13 seconds a minute and I'm not sure what I can do to slow it down that much. Can anyone help? Thanks, Chris |

If it's not magnetized then you have the wrong balance complete and / or mainspring. Try demagnetizing first. |

Ahhh thanks Roff that didn't even enter my mind, there was a few parts that kept sticking to my tools. I guess that proves I'm still very new to this. |

Regulation of that degree can occur with a screwed balance wheel by adjusting the screws, but first step has to be to understand the underlying cause and address that, especially as adjusting / shaving screws is a PITA. |

Thanks Wessa, I purchased one of these it worked a little but the watch still shows magnatism when next to a compass. I tried demagnetising the balance on its own and saw that the hairspring was deformed. I demagnetised the balance and balance bridge then removed the hairspring and, after watching a YouTube video which was very helpful, I removed the bends from the hairspring. Once I got the balance lined up correctly the watch started working nicely. Thanks for all your help just need to check for time accuracy now. I believe it was my own fault that the hairspring was misshapen but I guess we all have to learn some how. |
