I have a 2009 Ball Fireman, it has an ETA 2824-2 movement inside, just recently the crown has become stiff to wind it up and it now engages the rotor, it never used to do this, I believe it's time for a service, can anybody give me an idea of what may have gone wrong with it?. It runs around 30 secs/day fast and I bought second hand around 2yrs ago. I am hoping a service will sort this out but I would be grateful for some advice from you experts that have worked on these movements Many thanks Phil |

The resistance is because the rotor is remaining engaged with the keyless works - hence why you can hear the rotor turning when you wind the crown. A service will address it - it's likely a simple cause, but make sure that you tell them about the problem to make sure that they deal with it. |

Just as a bit of an update I have decided to service this movement myself, I'm absolutely loving it and thoroughly recommend it to other members one word of advice though when you get to the click spring they can mysteriously vanish never to be seen again  .Regards Phil |

Always get two click springs when you place the order with your supplier. Otherwise, the new one will launch off the bench as well. Hope it came out ok with the rotor problem. |

Hi onewatchnut, the movement runs fine now its around +6 secs/day and I have not regulated it, I would guess I could probably get her down to 2/3 secs/day but I can live with 6. Great movement to strip down and rebuild, I am only a tinkerer with very limited knowledge but there is so much info available and videos that I thought I'd give it a go. I also ended up breaking the vial on the hour hand with my tweezers but thankfully got some great help from Ball to replace it. At the moment I am toiling with getting one of my Seiko 6139's going but loving the challenge. I may move on to v178's soon as I have a vintage Navi that will need to be serviced in a year or two so I still have a little time left to collect info and research Regards Phil |
