Are there any instructional books that can educate me so I can identify the vintage movements. I am massively impressed with the way most of you just look at a movements and know what they are. It must take years to acquire that knowledge.

Buy yourself a copy of Bestfit from eBay, that's pretty helpful, and the Ranfft pink pages are also helpful if you have an idea of what the movement might be (or at least producer) - http://www.ranfft.de/cgi-bin/bidfun-db. ... swk0&2uswk

get a Bestfit by all means! if you are looking for info online ranfft is a great resource, but as Roff says, only helpful if you think you know what maker or model you are looking for, tedious for browsing.

a very nice resource is here: http://www.faszination-uhrwerk.de/index-en.html

you select type of movement and size and then browse through the models - most wristwatch movements will be between 12 and 14 lignes.
