I received a letter today in the mail from FedEx. Appearently I now owe them $22 in import and/or customs fees. Very strange since I have never been charged custom duties when I receive a shipment from abroad and secondly that I received the "BILL" over two weeks since they delivered the watch!!

Just a heads up to the rest of us in the US. Your probably going to get a bill as well.

That sounds about right, I always get hit when I buy a watch that is shipped from the EU. If you look more closely at the invoice you'll see that about $10 of that fee goes to FedEx for the processing fee, the rest is the actual customs duty. If I remember right there is no duty for watch parts with a declared value under $255 or so.

From memory UPS charges even more for their fee.

The same thing happens here in the UK when I buy from outside the EU and it gets shipped by Fed Ex. Always an irritating surprise. :?

Not a surprise in Japan though, as I expected it. Luckily, VAT in Japan is 5% so the additional cost isn't that great. And, no extra charges from the FedEx partner. :)

You guys should consider yourselves lucky  in Germany you get charged 25% on top of the purchase value of the watch for customs. On top of that there are importing fees and the courier fees, so far above the 20$..... :x
