Post subject:  BS LE Mark II Special feature 1 Poll

The discussions are coming to an end with Gunter and I will be posting the final polls as he confirms the possibility of other features and if the price is reasonable.

This feature is included in the price so I think it will be a no brainer

This poll is about adding an extra element to the dial without increasing complexity, we have the option of having the subdials in the Chrono deeper than the rest of the dial, which adds depth and visual appeal in a very interesting way, however since we also do not want to cut off the numeral 6 we will have to forgo it altogether if we are to keep the deep subdials (any smaller and it will look silly)

So, lets see what the group decides on. Here is a pic for your reference.

Just a quick note, although I have not been posting on here as often as I would like I have been spending my time communicating with Gunter and the watch is starting to look really good, this is one to be excited about :D

No brainer for me personally - deep subdials.

Sorry if I'm being a bit slow here.

When you say deep subdials... do you mean all three dials or just the top and bottom ones? Wondering why the 6 is a problem on the bottom chrono subdial and not the 9 on the constant seconds if you mean all three?

Also, would the bottom subdial have a 6 on it at all, i.e. the same size & style as the other 3 nos. on that subdial? It would surely look a bit strange to have the 12, 3 & 9 numbers on it and just a space at the bottom, no?

Like the idea of deep subdials though!

Cheers!

Dave.

Don't think the LE number allocation thread is up yet... but when it is, I reckon I'll be sticking my name down for number 6 again...

My guess is that the 9 o'clock subdial would be shrunk ever so slightly so that the "9" can be preserved. Since the subdial is so oversized at the moment, I think this would still look good.

I voted for the sunken subdials, provided we only loose the 6 and not the 9 (loosing the 9 would destroy the symmetry of the dial).

Cool.

Personally I think keeping the 6 on the bottom subdial in the same size and font as the other numbers on it would look better than just a gap at the bottom.. not sure why we'd have to lose it totally.

Happy to go with what the majority think looks best though...

Cheers

Dave.

Deep, provided we loose the 9 and 6, although I initially agreed with Mofongo that the 3 may look odd too. :? (You realise of course that the 9 wouldn't have to go on a 47mm piece! :poke:  ). However, I've just mocked up what it would look like without the 6 and 9 and it looks OK!

Like this in fact -

(Note - I added a small 6 on the subdial, which should be fine on a sunken dial).

That subdial looks great with the small 6 on it imho.

Initially thought it looked a bit strange without the 9 and still keeping the 3, so I mocked up what it would look like without the 3.

It's more symmetrical (which I'm always a fan of normally) but there is a bit of a gap where the 3 once was so I think it makes the day/date & Steinhart logo look like it's positioned slightly too far to the left.... so now I think it might actually look better with the 3 in place.. but not symmetrical?!?

Decisions decisions :?

I think from now on I'll just leave this kind of thing up to the experts on here.. much less stressful!

Cheers!

I think it looks good with the 6 missing. As for the 9, in an ideal world, it would be great to get rid of the 9 and the 3 and move the day/date over to the right a little bit. After a brief survey of pilot's watches from IWC, Fortis, and Hamilton, this seems to be the design strategy of choice. However, that requires messing with the day and date wheel, which probably gets expensive.

Is it possible to shrink the size of the seconds subdial so that the 9 can be kept? That would also be a good scenario.

If not, then I would go for getting rid of the 9 and keeping the 3. Even through it is lopsided, I think it looks better than the gap to the right of the day/date. Again, from my brief survey of aviation watches from Fortis and Hamilton, both manufacturers favor keeping an asymmetry rather than having a blank space. To me, it looks like their priorities are like this:
1) clarity of subdials
2) hour numbers
3) symmetry

P.S. Thanks to D8 and Chumba for posting the modified mockups. These really help!

Looking at the mock up I would prefer to drop the 3 and 9 to be honest.
