i guess this was directed at me for asking the euro=dollar question...you can spend your money however you like but i like to know if mine is spent justly. i don't have a problem with the 350 euros, but on top of all their other fees paypal is essentially taking another 9euros with their exchange rate. personally i've given enough money to paypal over the years and would rather see that money go elsewhere...like to breitlingsource, etc etc.

edit: found out paypal charges 2.5% for the currency conversion :|

Not to keep this going but I do have a question about the PayPal conversion. Where on the site did you find the "charge" info regarding the conversion? I do, every once in a while, send money overseas and would like to be able to read about this. I thought that the "sender" didnt ever get charged a fee when sending money.

Why does everything happen with this watch when I am flying :?: :?: :?:

Didn't login on Dec 8th at all because I was traveling all day, then got stuck in Dulles overnight and didn't want to pay to get wireless. Finally got to my destination this afternoon (1 day late!) and got internet a few hours ago.

PayPal calculated the total cost for 350 euros sent from my bank account as $538.37 (fees plus a not-that-great exchange rate). My credit card charges a 2.9% conversion fee, which at the current exchange rate ($517) is a total of $532. It took a little convincing to get PayPal to actually let me pay in euro with my credit card, but I managed to save about $6. So really, either way is roughly the same.

I've never seen it as a specific fee - it's in the exchange rate that they offer vs. the market exchange rate.

@mofongo 2.9% seems very high for the cc exchange rate. PayPal quoted me C$568 for letting them do the exchange, not sure what the cc will do me because it hasn't gone through yet, but I'm expecting nearer $550.

Before going on a recent trip, I called all of my credit cards and asked, and they were all between 2.7% and 3%. Some web-surfing verified that for the U.S. at least, this is pretty much the norm. There are credit cards out there that charge no fee at all, but you have to specifically sign up for them.

As someone who uses Paypal a lot, I agree that Paypal fees are pretty high, but IMO (here in the UK at least) the speed and convenience of sending funds instantaneously from my PC just about justifies the cost. My bank charges a fee for making bank/wire transfers and for anything over a couple of hundred I can't do it over the phone - I have to physically go into the bank. And then the damn thing takes days to happen. The cost, time and effort of making wire transfers is just a joke in the UK - at least with my bank.

I've also had aggravation with wire transfers where the recipient has not provided exactly the right info etc. I had a wire transfer sit in limbo for over a week once because the guys account name was his first initial and his last name, but he told me it was his full first name and last name. Because of that the transfer sat in limbo for days while both banks were trying to track it down.

So yes, Paypal is expensive, but it's just so damn simple to use.

It sounds like his mouse has now become wireless as well. :)

I remember those mouse-thingys...vaguely. Ever since I got my gestures-capable trackpad, I have not had the urge to use such antiquated technology. ;)

At work, I use what they give me. I have a gesture capable device too. It will not transcribe the gesture I am currently making. You will just have to guess!
