Post subject:  New 2014 Colt Automatic

Launched this year very recently, I believe I had the first black dialled one in Wales ! Lol.

So glad that Breitling took a common sense pill with the all new Colt. Essentially upsizing slightly the previous but one model.....and killing off the UGLY (IMPO) quartz only Colt 44

REF: A17388

Image.

The Breitling Colt is the entry level into their tool/diver market, as that was Breitlings original intention. The original Colt was originally 38mm in size, increasing to 41 and now 44. Gone is the 2011 Colt 44 design.....instead super sizing the almost identical 2006 model.

The bracelet is now matte brushed (polished edges) to match the bezel. The whole case is left polished. When you put the watch on a strap, gives a much dressier look.

Movement.

Breitling 17 Chonometer rated.

Breitling uses an ETA 2824-2 movement

Runs smooth as silk with a 42 hour power reserve.

Mine as tested is gaining 0.5secs a day.

Feel.

The Glass as with all modern Breitlings is dual AR coated which makes it nigh on invisible at times, a very clean looker. Like a slimmed down version of the baton dial Seawolf. Depth rating on the Watch is 200m which is 300m less than both previous generations of Colt, yet still meets the dive requirements. I can't imagine this watch is in reality what you'd buy for diving.....it's more of an everyday watch.
The new Pro 3 bracelet looks more like an Oyster now, with the centre links being oversized. But nice to see they've reverted back to the angled links. The bracelet has no wetsuit extension link.
Its a pretty heavy watch yet beautifully slim at 11.25mm. The lugs are nicely curved with faceted edges.

Case size and weight (head only) History:-

1999-2005 13.2mm 500m 38mm 62.4g
2006-2011 12.4mm 500m 41mm 90.2g
2011-2013 14.0mm 500m 44mm 102.8g
2014-current 11.25mm 200m 44mm 96.5g

Packaging.

Breitling usually produces cracking packaging. Outer hard box, with a black Bakelite inner and even a smaller leather carry pouch too. Compartment for the instruction manual, C.O.S.C and warranty papers. Gone are the old nightmare faulty hinged boxes of the late 90's early 2000's.

So you'd think the new packaging would be better again.......

But NO .....these new boxes look and feel cheaply made. An outer cardboard and an inner pouch and that's it !
The digital warranty card is the only plus point.

You don't wear a box, so its a bit useless really, but a nice one is.....errrrr.... Nice and great to keep for that "complete package".

Overall as an everyday watch.

Perfect looking IMPO..... And a true return to form for Breitling.

Very nice MuRph, nearly bought one of these when I got my SO 44 earlier in the year.

Brings back the classic breitling look IMO.

Thanks for the review. I liked the Pro III bracelet but thought its clasp was a bit crude. What do you reckon?
