A very nice watch and good review, but I am not convinced by that finish. I have a Charmex Hurricane with a similar coating and its the least worn watch I have. I am super scared of dinging the case, scratching it or generally being less than super careful. The LE looks OK here and no doubt is even better in the flesh, but there is just something about the arrising on edges around the bezel that is emphasised by the coating. Might not be that 'rounded' if it were steel. Just my op.

What it needs, is a tailor made plastic coat so you can protect the finish when worn.

Also, is the strap that bulky in real life? Someone help me out here as I seldom see Brietlings with synthetic straps. Seems a little large in the clasp area. Is that correct?

Thank you for posting the link.

Hey P51

The black steel has been produced using DLC which does soak into the metal.
I would think with heavy wear if scratched deeply you would see the steel case, refinishing can be a problem, Breitling would normally quote for a new inner case, or whole case depending upon how badly scratched / worn, your watch is.

Could you tell in the video that there was plastic on the shoulders and side of the case? I'd be tempted to leave those on to protect the case alittle
:)

the strap isnt bulky at all, its just 4mm thick all the way across.......when the watch is on the wrist it almost looks like it moulds to your wrist

No I did not notice that. Might start a new trend for tougher than steel finished that need some protection. Haha. Can't put my finger on it but there is something about that finish which leaves me a little underwhelmed. The dark side the moon is something different again & much more encouraging for someone like me. Dipping a toe in the coated finish pond as it were. Perhaps my hurricane has taught me a few lessons. Good reviews all the same & thank you for the pointers on the strap.

My Avenger is DLC and I've beat it up pretty bad, but the only place there's any sign of finish wear is on the inside of the deployant clasp where metal pieces touch and rub. And even then it's pretty minor.
I was in the market for the big polished GMT like this one and went looking to see how they wore on my wrist - I tried on one of these blacksteel GMTs. I really liked it, but I already have a black and want the polished Chronomat.

Another great review by Bob. Not my style of watch, but a well done review :-)

The Chronomat is tough as hell in black. I think it's sick. And a great review too, thanks!

Great review and an awesome looking piece. I think I'm putting it on the short list.
