While I love vintage watches of this style, the mid 90’s Aviastar really makes it for me now. I have to admit a short time ago I found domed plexiglass to be dated. Now I find new models that sports this style to be retro in a “Mad Men” fashion cool. If you don’t consider yourself a “Navitimer guy” - and I would have put myself in that group not too long ago - the non-vintage off spring of the Navitimer AVI family is a great look. Personally, I find the Aviastar falls between today’s Navitimer and Windrider family where the TransOcean models, using a similar domed sapphire glass, being a dressier alternative (note the Aviastar uses mineral glass). One distinctive trait of this watch is it’s legibility. Although the model here lum is mostly spent the white numbers and hands makes it an enjoyable habit reading the time. Being an aviator’s watch the bi-directional bezel excels in many timing situations not only in the job it was designed for but in my daily activities.

My feelings on the Aviastar is it’s a model waiting to be discovered again.

I would like to see other Aviastars you have and your thoughts on the model.

Happy Holidays to you too. Nice spread of Breitlings Dempsey. You must be a contented and happy man with these three. :lingsrock:

Nice pick up on the AVI. The legibility is a great attribute to this or any watch and I totally agree with you that it is very clear. I note that one of the most important watches to me (and in a similar way to the AVI) with clear, simple and unambiguous graphics is Bremont. Some similarities with there Alt P chronographs I think.

The background here in military watches is clear and evident. Keep it simple and there is less room for confusion or mistakes when in use. Kind of important in a Military sense.

It has a good use of space on the dial without being either too sparse or too cluttered. Its a classic design and speaks to the whole genre of Aviator watches. There is also a level of sophistication within the AVI style that would not look out of place in formal situations.

Enjoy wearing this one as I can see it going to a whole lot of places and events in the future. :wink:

lovely work on that stepped dial too, quite exceptional & still highly undervalued piece. liked the brown dial theoretically, did not really work irl, the black is beautiful.

Adds to the 3 dimensionality of the dial. Very nice indeed.

My friend has one and I think it's a real aviators watch. Dial is not busy and legibility is great while incorporating steped subdials that add to the beauty of dial. Great watch.

I only find bezel too busy and hard to use for my eyes.

A wonderful looking watch. I had the rare blue dial version but had to sell, because the mineral glass and the 30 m waterresistance bothered me, and the bezel was unreadable. An up-to-date reissue would be nice, day-date 7750 for me. Several times a rumor about the reissue, never yet realized.
Worth thinking about it.

Good day

I finally got another Breitling and the choice became the Aviastar.
Was actually looking for a vintage navitimer but i live in Sweden and they are not
very common on the Swedish market, at least not last year. And im not so very pleased (not yet)
with the idea to buy watches over the net so it was a bit of a coincidense that i found this Watch...

I cant say i loved it at first sight but the more i looked at it and the more i found out about the watch
the more interested i became. I realized there was not so many photos to be found the net or from
online Sellers either. But i decide to take the 400 km drive to check this Watch out.

The Watch looked great and when i tried it on it felt very right :)

Positive sides:
The looks
Its not something you see on every wrist
Comfortable (size and weight)

Negative sides:
I find it a bit though to use the crown
The glass
