People tell me that for the 6k I paid I could have got a better watch

Well give or take a few thousand.

Captain comes in at under $7,500 - not bad for a high beat movement. Add a flyback for under $8,000, same for the retrotimer. Heck the three hand Captain lists for $5,000.

So far I still love this watch! I did ding it a little as I wear it everyday but you can't really notice unless you stair at it! I've done even more research on watches as its my new little hobby and it comes
Down to this... Breitling is by far my favorite.
Other watch companies have crazy price points for their good offerings. I like how breitling you can get one of their best models for about 6k give or take.

Panerai- way too much for a decent model.
Zenith - way too much for a decent model
Rolex - not for me! Also the submariner is the only one in a similar price range
IWC - Jesus those are outrageously priced
Ulyse Nardin - I will buy the maxi marine one day for sure!!!
Breitling - will get another super ocean heritage in blue!

I am new to these boards and luxury watches in general! For the last 2.5 years I have been looking at watches and trying to figure out what a good starter watch I should get. I honestly went to the AD's 100 times to try on everything from Tag all the way to Rolex. For one reason or another I decided the flying fish was the best watch for me. It looks awesome and has the B01 movement. Not sure about the other movements but so far its accurate and the power reserve lives up to its name. I am really scared to put it under water though!!! Overall this watch is awesome, feels great and looks good. People tell me that for the 6k I paid I could have got a better watch but honestly I do not think that is the case. Im really happy with this model and hopefully I will overcome the small fear and put the thing under water!!!

Please, don't fret, just check pushers & crown are firmly screwed down, and get that watch IMMERSED. It'll be fine, honest. My favourite Chronomat BTW, it really is stunning in the flesh IMO. Congratulations.

Don't listen to others. You got a badass watch. The movement in it is incredible, the family is legendary, and it is meant to get wet. For other outings, you may also want to get a Pilot bracelet. I have read and been told by numerous members that it is the finest of bracelets. And as far as getting wet, it was made for saturation diving so it will absolutely handle whatever water you throw at it (minus steaming it over a pot of boiling water, perhaps)...it was even named after the most extreme freediver in the world.

The Flying Fish is a great watch - the best Chronomat 01 variant out there IMO - with a full in-house chronograph movement. "Better" is a hugely subjective word in the world of watches, so if you like the look (which you obviosuly do), then you've got the best watch for you. Plus the movement is damn fine too - and there's a lot of watchmakers out there who don't have their own in-house chronograph movement. I think it's a great watch!

But hey, a Casio is multiple orders of magnitude more accurate than the best autos, so it all comes down to what the buyer wants. The heritage of the Flying Fish is really cool. That said (and despite Breitling claims that the B01 is the "best chronograph movement in the world") the El Primero is arguably considered as the finest chronograph movement around today. In terms of the brand in general, then as Roff will attest, they have been known to have a few QC issues at times.... but then there are a few people here who could say the same about Breitling. It's all swings and roundabouts really.
