Young navigator arrives at his first squadron and is assigned the oldest and crustiest of the pilots to be found. Having no time for his "back seater" and ballast keeper he sat the young lad down for some learning. The nervous young navigator sat waiting for the pearls of wisdom from his pilot.

The pilot sat for a moment and then drew out an old 6 shooter and placed in on the desk in front of his new charge.

The navigator, now wide eyed and curious summoned the courage to ask "whats that for?"

The pilot quickly shot back "That my son is for when you are lost . . . . . !"

Feeling down and looking to regain his composure the young navigator searched through his helmet bag for a moment and suddenly withdrew a brand new nickel plated 9mm, gleaming and potent.

The pilot confused and disgusted belted out "What the hell is that for?"

The young navigator looked him squarely in the eye, smiled and said "I'll know before you will!"
