I looked but am surprised that nobody posted this before me. The retired Astronaut, last shuttle pilot for Endeavour, more likely known as the husband of former U.S. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, did an interview with Kelley which was posted on Ablogtowatch, formerly Ablogtoread. I'm not able to post a link to it here, if somebody can, great. Clearly a Breitling guy, he even discusses how he became one after another brand failed him in flight. Also some interesting statements about watches and time management in spaceflight.

He really should be approached as an ambassador for Breitling.

Interesting read, thanks for link. I've seen a lot of pics in the space shuttle(s) with the crew wearing the Omega X-33 which has the mission timer he was talking about, along with many other functions. Cool to see he appreciates the Breitling pilot 'instruments' :) .

If Breitling is about making instruments for professionals, you don't get any more professional than him...and I mean that both as a professional by profession and a professional by professionalism/manners. Thanks for sharing!

Spent some moments with him during the Scott Carpenter event, summer 2012. Great guy, really humble and somewhat embarrassed of the attention he was receiving. I agree, a real professional.

He may be a "professional" in line with Breitling brand image, but I have a hard time respecting a man who wants to eliminate one of my civil rights as an American, especially when American tax dollars have payed his salary.

I nominate Doug Giles. A man's man.

Not a Travolta-pilot-metrosexual-soccer playing-underwear model-man.

Sure, how dare he oppose the any of the NRA policies, no matter how small, and suggest increased background checks and magazine limitations. What right does he - a decorated Navy pilot who flew many bombing runs in combat, the pilot of a massive "glider" that has blown up once on the way up and once on the way back down, the husband of a US Congresswoman who had a large chunk of her brain blown out, a man who has been with her during a long and arduous and frustrating recovery, and a gun owner himself as is his permanently disabled wife. Clearly this man did nothing but suck off the government tit to provide for his family.

How DARE he quibble in any respect with the most powerful special interest lobby in the world! I couldn't agree with you more.........

The nut passed a FBI background check, and purchased the handgun legally. He was not in psychiatric care and was not on medication.
Kelly's wife was shot once through the head and was the first one shot.
What proposals of Mark Kelly's organization would have prevented that tragedy?

Probably would not have avoided it, but that isn't what Mark Kelly is claiming, just two rather small items of regulation.

My post was merely to respond to the logic of what seemed a ridiculously over the top post and an unwarranted attack on an American hero, not to debate the pros and cons of regulatory efforts he and others propose.

I do find it sad that when a person disagrees with any point maintained by the NRA, then that person's past service to his country is discounted, personal attacks ensue and he becomes branded unAmerican. It is a page right out of the McCarthy playbook from the '50s.

And just to be clear, I support the Second Amendment (not because I am a fan of it personally, but because I am a constitutionalist)......and so does/is Mark Kelly.

As a constitutionalist I have to recognize that means I will not always "get MY way." If more special interests, NOT just the NRA mind you, could simply join adulthood and surrender to the notion that NO ONE "gets their way" on every single item, the overall political discourse in the US might just leave kindergarten, which would be a pleasant step forward.
