Expect a new Emergency for next Basel...

I know no details yet, but I know, it will be presented then.

Hmm.

Wonder if it will be a refreshed E or an additional piece to replace EM - that might make sense as the Professional range is looking light at the moment. Of course a more Chronospace like Emergency is also a possibility to bring consistency to the range look.

And if we are going to dream, an in house SQ wouldn't be a bad thing.

Thanks for letting us know Thomas.

I, too, have been thinking that an in-house SQ movement would be the next logical step after the B01. Plus, I just bought my first SQ, and I seem to have a knack for buying a product just before a new version hits the market. An updated Emergency would seem to be a good choice to use to introduce an in-house SQ.

Just a year to wait then, huh?

I wonder if they'll change the frequency to 406MHz?

I sincerely hope it's at least 46mm -- and most importantly, min 100m WR like my EM!

I thought it wasn't possible to have a watch-sized 406mhz transmitter due to inadequate battery power?

Not sure on the feasibility of 406, but I would be slightly surprised if they did it - surface and air monitoring will continue to monitor 121.5 so it's not necessary. The satellites only monitoring 406 isn't really relevant as the signal isn't strong enough for satellite pick up in anything other than perfect conditions.

My guess us a steel version of the sq e and with the move to steel a case revamp as the additional aerial wouldn't be needed

As a professional aviator who flies commercially, I would say that changing the freq would be a bad move.

Everyday I go to work and get into the cruise between on average 22,000' and 41,000' we monitor 121.5 on the spare comm box.

I frequently hear the odd ELT going off, and when its heard its reported to ATC, then a search attempt is underway etc etc...

I doubt a change of freq would be safer for the wearer, especially if the transmitter isnt strong enough for the satellite.

Interesting... the Professional range definitely needs more attention.

Is it even likely that we'll see an in-house SQ within the next few years? In-house SQ sounds great and I'm sure Breitling could do it very well, but I doubt it will happen any time soon. Maybe it will get the B78 from the B-1/Airwolf?

Whatever form it takes, I just hope they don't ruin the dial. Please don't clutter the clean and simple Emergency dial!

About the frequency:

I just visited the Chronometrie (B01-production) in Switzerland and had the chance to talk to Monika Piren (from Breitling management) for a while and she told me the reasons for the frequencies: At 121.5 there are many interferences, where You cannot always verify, that it would be an ELT signal, so the industry changes the frequency to 406 on a longterm basis. But the emergency is sending a morse "B" after the normal signal, so it can be properly identified. The 406 frequency will be with a unique code to identify the aircraft, the ELT is located in. And the satelite tracking will only work on the 406 frequency. But for the final location of a missed aircraft, the 121.5 will still be in use.

Breitling officially says, they could produce 50000 movements per Year, but they only produced 30000 movements in the last year. By authum they will finish a second production line, with additional production capacity for 50000 watches. So Breitling will be the third largest manufacturer of own movements behind ETA and Rolex!

Oh, yes, before I forget: Expect a B01 Navitimer soon. Also a normal 3 hands movement seems to be in the final development stages. They did not show us a prototype, but they already seem to be working on the production preperations.

That's superb news on all counts!

I assume the "normal 3 hands movement" means a non-chronograph? If so I guess that means we could possibly see an in-house diver soon too, as historically Breitling's divers seem to be the main users of non-chrono movements. Wouldn't it be great to see a Breitling rival to the SDDS?! :poke:

alien, sorry but i doubt that Breitling will produce 50000 in house movements, it's impossible right now, this would means they will stop to use ETA movements... no?

50,000 movements in house, not 50,000 in house movements.

In other words they are producing ETA and Valjoux movements in house - they are far beyond copyright protection and it's a safeguard against Swatch Group's discontinuation of ebauches sales.
