Post subject: | Breitling support for current quartz models |
I came across a thread where a member mentioned that a Breitling rep from Breitling SA informed him that current super quartz models will be supported in the same manner as mechanical movements are. I assume this might be true as they manufacture the super quartz models vs the quartz movements that were used by Breitling in '80's. Any info would be greatly appreciated. |

Breitling is a lot more involved with current quartz than with the first generations so it will be easier to support them. Similarly, they now use ETA base movements and ETA is more stable than some of the early suppliers (though I don't know how quartz will be impacted by the upcoming changes to Swatch Group's policy on ebauche movements). The problem will be that eventually it will not be possible to support these movements. When a mechanical movement goes out of production it's easy to fabricate pieces, but you can't fabricate one off circuit boards. Maybe 50 years from now it will be different, but eventually there will be problems unless ETA / Breitling never cease production of any quartz caliber, and never cease production of any earlier generation parts. |
