Hi Well it seems i have sorted the problem i had with my Chronomat,i decided to regulate the watch myself...carefully i must add and having looked at the movement on the web and read about it etc etc. and it is now sitting at the side of the control watch,my Citizen Oceanus for an accurate time{radio controlled} i will have to regulate it again it is only just creeping ahead of the Citizen but i will nail it soon. |

How did you pressure test the caseback to ensure that the watch was still waterproof? |

No pressure test!......not 1 of my watches comes close to ever getting near water, and if i wear a watch at the gym as i train let me assure you it would never be of any great loss if it were to get damaged ie sweat causing condesation thru a badly sealed caseback,and when i do wear a watch of value and any chance of a drop of rain seeing my watch it is covered believe me. i once almost had an argument re my divers watches,i said i'd never wear them in water,there designed for it he said,i said the only time i would ever have a watch on near water would be on my holiday and as such am not in the real desire to know the time...I'M RELAXING ON HOLIDAY,i don't dive so again don't need to know when i can no longer breathe!!!!. it wasn't that frightening really to unscrew the caseback of a watch then find the appropriate mechanism to adjust the watch really it wasn't,i had a few drams of whisky first to calm my nerves and steady my hands then i was ok. i sometimes cook my own food!,and i'll let you all into a secret,i'm not a qualified chef at all. yours The Risktaker |

Well I admire your enthusiasm and pioneering spirit! Certainly not something I'd try - at least not on one of my "good" watches (and yes I know what part needs to be adjusted and all that), but I admire your enthusiasm for the task all the same. |

The point about conditioning / servicing first can be a key one. I had a vintage watch that was out by about 3 minutes in a 24 hour period when I received it. Took it to my watchmaker for regulating to see if that solved the problem before spending money on a service and he said that it was spot on - no error at all. So I go home and sure enough it's out by 3 minutes. Take it back to get monitored and the watchmaker found that he was seeing the 3 minute error as well. He tried testing it at different times of day and found that the delay was caused when the clock was indicating about 3 o'clock, any other time and it was fine. Probably caused by some dirt on the hour wheel - a servicing fixed it no problem. |
