I have been offered a swap for my Heritage against an Emergency, whats your thoughts? The emergency is a 2004 and had a service in 2006, all boxes and paperwork very very clean.

I wouldn't do it, Heritage is more desirable to me.

I agree. They are difficult watches to compare as they are so different, but the Heritage is becoming one of those iconic Navitimers and aren't available that often. On the other hand the Emergencies are relatively common. In some ways the Emergency is worth less after the service as the first service is free - so now you are faced with a watch 3 years after service with the cost of a service in the relatively near future.

I wouldn't do it.

it all depends on what you've already got. if you've got another piece from the Navitimer range then i think the Emergency would be a nice addition which would add a bit of spice to your collection. Although this one isn't, it is actually better to get one that has just been serviced as it not only saves you the service fee but also means you won't be without it for several months. Being serviced in 2006 means a nice £400-£500 in the next year or so!!!!!

Looking to the future though, Emergencies are always in demand so re-sale prices are high.

Very true and good advice. The second hand value of the Emergency is one of the best in the range. I had a Navitimer and a Cosmonaut once, very nice watches but they just did not have the 'niche' appeal the Emergency has. It's just such a special watch and together with the case and Dassault tester it is unique in the world. Just be careful at party's and such, people allways try to scare you by pretending to unscrew the antenna...

Not according to a Breitling Switzerland rep who assured me personally that they will not treat the recent quartz Lings like the ones produced in the '70's and '80's. He said they will provide spare parts for the quartz and superquartz watches for years and years to come, same as for the mechanical ones. Was he plain bullshitting ?

I have a Breitling that's coming close to it's 70th birthday. Do you honestly think that an Emergency will live that long?

Not live that long but if they keep providing spares it should not be to big a problem to fix it in 20 years from now ? That was what he was referring to. The old quartz Lings ran out off spares in the '90's. That's a bit fast in my opinion and the nice rep from Switzerland agreed on that but assured me that mistake will not be made again.
