Hi Guys,

was wondering if any of you could help me.

I have been given the above named watch and am wishing to try and get the battery fixed on it, and also find out what it is worth for insurance purposes.

I have been to watches of Switzerland in London but they have told me they wont touch it in case the bezel breaks. they tried Breitling themselves to see if the had spares but they don't.. so on that basis it looks as if i shall have to keep in without it working :( unless anyone else knows something i or they dont :)

but on the other question about it's worth i was wondering if anyone could shed some light on it . i have looked on the web but found none that resemble the Breitling i have. pictures included albeit not the best quality... my apologies there . i have tried to get the number on the back 81490 and 15242 included.

oh and does anyone know the date this would have been introduced....i am rubbish i know sorry.

The 2400 was produced between 1980 and 1985, it was also known as the Cosmos and the Mars. It's not particularly valuable - no more than $1,000 or so in working condition.

The movement is an ESA Y2 900231 and is no longer available, so if hte movement is damaged then this watch can never be repaired. It is a temperamental movement, changing the battery can short the contacts if not very careful.

I can't find a definitive battery for the movement, but I have seen pictures of the movement with a 344 so that will likely work.

I've worn my 2400 since 1985. It's at my wrist right now. I'd like to find a movement for it. For the past 20 years, the LED has "bled". I have always enjoyed the size and appearance, and so, I don't want to replace it. I want to FIX it. For 20 years, Breitling has said, SORRY.

I can't believe that such a company can fail to support their customers that way.

Anyone know where I can find a good movement? It still tells time perfectly, but goes through batteries with good rapidity.

I have had the battery replaced by upscale watchmakers without problem for decades :)

Since I'm new to Breitling and not realy into vintage/quarz.
Maybe you should give this a try. The movement is the same. Some TAG also use that movement.

I've answered this question in your other thread more completely, but bottom line is that the manufacturer (actually both manufacturers) have declared the movement obsolete - that's not Breitling's fault. The only way to get a movement now is to find another watch to 'donate' one.

I maintain that if a company sold a watch, then they should maintain a stock of parts to fix them - especially companies of Breitling's stature, or they should offer a replacement.

Yes, but not almost 25 years old quartz parts.
That's the issue with all old quartz movements.

A year ago I met a representant of Breitling Switzerland at a reception for the opening of the new store of my AD. After his speech it was cocktail hour and we got to talk to each other. He stated that the quartz mouvements like the ones built into the new Aerospace / Emergency / etc.. will be supported in the same way as the mechanical mouvements in the future. He also said that it is true the quartz movements of the '80s where not exactely superb quality and that even they could not source the parts since they did not make it.

Maybe nowadays, but Breitling as a company have been through some hard times in the past, and I can well imagine that just making enough movements to sell was their priority in order to keep their heads above water. Not ideal for you now, but Breitling has come a long way in the last 20 or 30 years.

Thanks all!

I now have the means to find a similar movement and fix the 2400. I guess Ford is no longer making parts for Model A's, so I have been set "right" with my complaint.

What an excellent service this forum is!

Could some of you with the amazing knowledge list for me the different watches built with the ESA Y2 900231 movement?

I can build a spares supply with that knowledge :)

Can't remember models off the top of my head, but from memory it was used by Bulova in at least one Combitron and Tudor in something that I really can't remember.

There were also a multitude of short lived companies that only produced quartz - Microma and Yema spring to mind.
