Hi,

I recently (about a week ago) purchased a new Breitling Navitimer automatic 41 directly from Breitling. This is my first Breitling, and my first automatic watch, so I'm not really familiar with this movement type.

I've noticed that the watch is running a bit fast, I'd estimate somewhere around 10-20 seconds a day, at least. I think I have heard from somewhere that new automatic watches may run a bit fast or slow in the beginning, but I'm not sure if thats correct.

When I received the watch in the mail it was already running, so I didn't really make sure to wind it 40 times as specified in the user manual. I would guess that I wound it 20-30 times. I've read in the FAQ on this forum that there is no risk of overwinding, so I've wound it a few more times since.

Is it normal that a brand new automatic watch is running fast in the beginning? Is there anything I should do to get the watch to run more accurately?

Honestly, 10-20 seconds is largely immaterial. If you leave in a different orientation overnight, it is likely to run a little slower, so it all works out on average.

Thanks for replying. True, its not too bad, but its outside the COSC spec (especially for a brand new watch), so I was just wondering if this is something thats likely to change as I'm using the watch in the first few weeks. I'll try leaving it dial up overnight to see if that changes anything.

Personally I wouldn't accept +20 per day for a watch which is meant to be COSC i.e. no more than +6. But I've had certainly found that new watches settle from running a little fast and would simply monitor it for a few weeks. Nearer +10 right now might well calm down into the COSC-zone ...

As Tom says, just wear it as often as you can for a few weeks and I think it will settle down to COSC standard. And enjoy it :)

New watches may be in a hurry due to the fact that they are magnetized.
