Hi there,
Just bought (what I hope is) a genuine Breitling.
However, there is no serial number between the lower (or upper) lugs.
The only thing I can see is the '0020' just under the model number.
Also, I notice that the links on the bracelet are pins, not screws.
I've enclosed a few pics for you guys to view.
Can you tell me what you think please.
Many Thanks
Lee

Hi there, welcome to the forum. Others will correct me if I’m wrong but I’m convinced your watch is genuine. There are no known convincing fakes of this model. It’s an early watch, I’d say late 1990s. The bracelet will be an early Professional 1 which I believe did have pins rather than the screws. I can’t comment on the serial number but it may be an early production model, i.e. number 20.

Hi zak57
Many thanks for your response. You have taken away a little of the worry I had about the watch!
I didn’t realize when I bought it that there were so many fake items around and I started to get a little paranoid.
I did receive the outer yellow box and the bakelite interior box, with the operating instructions booklet and the authorized service agents pamphlet, but no written information about date/place of purchase etc.
Hopefully a few more of the other informed members like yourself will confirm the authenticity.
Many thanks again,
Lee

As already said, real without a doubt.
Serial is just under the ref#.
Bracelet is "older" type with pins and hollow end links.
Newer type (also Pro1) is 879A, with screws and solid end links (comes with A17345).

Many thanks guys, the serial number is what got me most confused. I read that the first two digits were the month and the last two were the year.
That obviously doesn't work in this case. '00' as a month? And '20' as the year?
As Zak57 noted, perhaps it may be an early production model or something?
Anyway, thanks again for your insightful responses. I feel confident now and can enjoy the watch even more!

To me it looks 0620 or 0820.
After 1979 (if remember correctly) it is not possible to date a Breitling through serial#.
That model was produced from '99-'02 in two very similar variants. The difference is the newer ones are officially certified chronometers and have different bezel pearl, case back and bracelet with screws and solid end links.
Your watch is earlier version.

Just checked again with magnifying glass. Definitely ‘0020’. As you say, maybe nothing at all to do with date of manufacture.
