Post subject:  My Crosswind with "gold" screws?

Dear members,

I am new to this forum. Coming from Holland and loving the Breitling as they are :)

I have a B13055 Crosswind and it has gold screws and windup and stopwatch buttons, but they are becoming grey instead that they are gold. Aren't real Breitlings always have gold screws and buttons?

I have the papers with it incl. box. Its a Crosswind from '97 and in very good shape.

Hope you can help me with this one.

Hi and welcome aboard!

The crown and push-pieces on two-tone Breitlings are not solid gold - they are rolled gold, which is essentially a layer of gold applied to a steel core. Over recent years the layer of gold used has become thicker, but I'm not sure how thick it was in '97. Either way, the gold can wear off over time, which is what you are seeing on your watch now. Breitling can certainly replace these for you (at a price obviously!) at your watch's next service.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply :)

Do you know if there are full gold push pieces? Also the screws at the diversring (how do you call it) are they available in full gold?

I'm not sure that any of these pieces are solid gold - even on the gold watches, because gold is likely too soft for this kind of use. I'm not 100% sure though, so stand to be corrected.

The ring that you're referring too is the bezel in English.

I'm not sure if the solid gold models have solid gold push-pieces - probably not because I think the steel core is to give it more strength as gold is pretty soft.

I think the bezel screws are available in solid gold as I think they use them on the solid gold models, but I can't be sure. They'd definitely be expensive though as 1 steel screw cost around $8!

EDIT - You just beat me too it, Roff!
